Alter Ego

OVERVIEW

Alter Ego is a soap brand centered around human emotions. It embraces the duality of feelings by pairing every emotion with another because, let’s face it, emotions are complicated, and what we feel changes from day to day. At its heart is a collection of zany illustrations for every mood that reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.

Problem: Create a soap brand and packaging based on scents and human emotions.

Solution: Show don’t tell. We’ve all heard it before. Alter Ego is based on that principle. The packaging is made from a curated collection of eclectic drawings from the minds of notable graphic designers, street artists, and my own sketchbooks to create a package for each emotion that feels like the emotion it’s based on.

Colors and Scents

While the Alter Ego branding is illustrative in nature, it also employs color to evoke the emotions of each package. The idea was to create a design that brings forth a specific emotion when all 5 colors are looked at as a set.

The scents matched with each emotion are chosen to be just as fun as the packaging design. When you think about it, what’s more out of pocket than the carnival or more aggressive than pepper spray? The art direction for the product photography embraces the chaos of emotion and scents to the max.
